POPIA Compliance & PAIA Manual

1. Your rights under POPIA
As a data subject under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), you have the right to:
- Know whether WorkTag holds personal information about you.
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate, outdated, or incomplete information.
- Delete your personal information, subject to our lawful retention obligations.
- Object to the processing of your personal information on reasonable grounds.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
2. Requesting access to your information
To request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, submit a written request to privacy@worktag.co.za with the subject line "PAIA Access Request". Include your full name, ID number, email address on file, and a description of the information you require.
We will respond within 30 days. An access fee (deposit) may be charged for extensive requests in line with the prescribed PAIA tariffs.
3. Correction & deletion
You may correct most personal information directly through your profile at worktag.co.za/profile.php. For deletion requests or information you cannot self-correct, contact privacy@worktag.co.za.
We will action deletion requests within 30 days. Some data (e.g., payment records) must be retained for statutory periods and cannot be deleted on request.
4. Objection to processing
You may object to processing of your personal information for direct marketing or where processing is based on legitimate interest. Send your objection to privacy@worktag.co.za. Processing will cease within 30 days unless we demonstrate a compelling legitimate ground that overrides your interests.
5. Complaints
If you believe we have processed your personal information in breach of POPIA, please first contact us at privacy@worktag.co.za so we can attempt to resolve the matter.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (see §7).
6. PAIA access fees
In terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA), we may charge the following fees for access requests:
- Request fee: R35 (non-refundable) per request.
- Copy fee: R0.60 per page (first 20 pages free).
- A deposit equal to one third of the likely copy fee may be required before we process an extensive request.
If you cannot afford the fees, you may apply for a fee waiver by explaining your financial circumstances in your request.
